Two officers were crossing a street on foot. The defendant was traveling down the roadway in his car. The officers stepped into the oncoming traffic expecting the traveling cars to stop for them. While driving by the officers, the defendant told them that they should be more careful. The officers got in their marked car and pulled the defendant over. Heated words were exchanged and then, it was alleged that the defendant attempted to run over the two police officers.
The Defense
At trial, Mr. Molle argued that the only thing his client was guilty of was speaking his mind. Mr. Molle established through cross-examination that the officers trumped-up the felony charges because their authority was challenged. Further, it was established that the officers were violating the law by jaywalking. The jury was able to see what really happened and vindicated Mr. Molle’s client.
